During the summer it would be a good idea to make some excursions to the nearest lakes. For who loves walking there are wonderful trails to hike through the Black Forest; for the ones that prefer to relax, there’s a funicular which will bring you directly to Schauinsland, the mountain close to the city. The view is breathtaking up there as it allows you to embrace Freiburg, the mountains and the valley in just one glance.
The imposing Freiburg cathedral with its mixture of late Romanesque and Gothic architecture, the old and new city halls, the historic merchant house and Gothic 'Haus zum Walfisch', where Erasmus von Rotterdam resided for some years are just a few places to visit. Furthermore, it is fair to say that this town is a famous center of academics and research. Some of the greatest minds ever have lived and worked in Freiburg and the town houses one of the oldest and most renowned German universities, the Albert Ludwig University.
As a student town, Freiburg offers a wide selection of cultural events, restaurants, coffee shops, museums and art galleries without losing its suburb charm.

Among the huge variety of all the restaurants and bars, the local brewery 'Feierling' stands out clearly, equipped with a Biergarten – literally translated “Beer Garden”. On warm summer nights, hundreds of students gather there.
This destination turns out to be the ideal place to study German cuddled in one of our language school!
